What is PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION?
Get guided your progressive relaxation exercise above to relax the body.
Your body automatically tenses muscles when you are anxious, stressed or alarmed. Progressive tensing a group of muscles allows your body to reach a deep state of relaxation and when practiced can teach your body to go into what‘s called the “Relaxation Response.”
1. Breathe in, and tense a little harder the first group of muscles for about 5 to 10 seconds. Start with your feet going in order of right to left and proceed through the all the muscle groups. You can skip a muscle group if you have an injury or discomfort in any areas of your body.
2. Breath out, quickly and completely relax the muscles.
3. Focus your awareness on the difference between how your muscles feel when tense and how they feel relaxed. Scan your body again for muscles that are not relaxed and may need to tense and relax a little more fully.
4. After you have practiced and mastered tensing and relaxing each muscle group if you have a specific area you carry your tension you can tense and relax that muscle area without going through the whole routine.
